Matt H.Riverside, CA – Santa Ana Watershed Project Authority has named Matthew Howard, a longtime water resources and water quality manager with statewide water management experience, to the position of watershed manager.

In his new role, Howard will work on SAWPA’s One Water One Watershed (OWOW) Integrated Regional Water Management Program, including the Disadvantaged Community Involvement Program and the upcoming Proposition 1 Grant Funding program.

“I’m honored to join the SAWPA team, which has a track record of strong leadership and water-resources planning throughout the watershed,” Howard said. “Collaboration is the key to watershed management and I look forward to working with SAWPA’s member agencies and diverse stakeholders.”

Howard has spent the past 10 years facilitating regional collaboration and water resource management in the Mojave Desert, where he served as water resources supervisor for the Mojave Water Agency.

“We’re very happy to have Matthew join our team,” said Rich Haller, SAWPA’s General Manager. “His experience is a powerful asset to our work in the Santa Ana River Watershed.”

Howard holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and a master’s degree in environmental science with a concentration in water chemistry, both from California State University, San Bernardino.
